Challenge
The Concept: Unlike the Mexico City-inspired Seminyak location or the Yucatán-themed Canggu branch, the Uluwatu outpost draws direct inspiration from the Baja California peninsula. The theme bridges the surf culture, rugged Pacific landscapes, and coastal food scenes shared between Baja and the Bukit Peninsula.
To bring this vision to life, Mexico City architect Carlos Cole has drawn inspiration from Baja’s historic Spanish missions. The result is a transportive labyrinth of rough stones, endless archways, and vibrant shrines, beautifully accented by over 65 custom tile designs. Longtime collaborator and Australian artist Brent Smith (@biffybrentano) also returns, cloaking the walls in his signature style—part lively cantina, part intimate casita, and part high-energy discoteca.
Solution
Spanning a massive 2,500 square meters, it accommodates up to 350 guests. Designed by Mexico City architect Carlos Cole (Sensibilidad Aplicada), the structure features Spanish mission-style architecture, a soaring 21-meter bell tower (campanario), weathered stone archways, fountains, kissing booths, and vibrant murals by artist Brent Smith.
