Challenge
Motel Mexicola's new Canggu location needed to channel a 1970s Yucatán Peninsula aesthetic without losing the bold, maximalist spirit the brand is known for — a balance owner Nicolaza and architect Carlos Cole were determined to get right across every corner of the space.
Solution
Working closely with Nicolaza and Carlos Cole, I painted murals, created custom neon signage, designed merchandise, custom tile work and interior styling — bringing the 1970s Yucatán reference to life while keeping Motel Mexicola's signature bold, colourful identity front and centre.

Inspired by the Yucatán’s traditional PIB earth oven, food is slow-cooked underground using fire, hot stones and time. This centuries-old technique is behind the iconic dishes like cochinita pibil, where marinated pork is wrapped in banana leaves and cooked for up to 12 hours. We’ve embraced this technique to prepare our own cochinita, a selection of tacos, ingredients for salsas, salads and even desserts
